Tracking election promises, rental changes, learn AI

Good morning / 早上好 / Bonjour / ਸ਼ੁਭ ਸਵੇਰ / Buen día friend!
This is the newsletter where I take you behind-the-scenes as we build Openroom.ca with you, our community.
At Openroom, we aggregate tenancy court orders across Canada, extract information from them, and put it to public use (e.g. search registry, impact credit history). We also educate with monthly events and training about rental housing.
Thank you for joining us in building towards a transparent and connected rental ecosystem.

👩🏻 Top insight from me, Weiting (Co-Founder) about Canada’s Elections
What if you can see the 2025 Federal Election platform promises, in real time?
I came across Build Canada where I got to compare between the Liberals vs. Conservatives across categories of: Housing, Trump and Tariffs, Cost of Living, Defence, Immigration, Healthcare, Economy, and more.
Build Canada is a non-partisan platform tracking campaign promises made during the 2025 Canadian Federal Election with real-time updates and comprehensive analysis.
Every single point they highlight comes with a credible source such as the video of the speech given by the respective leader or from the party’s website itself.
Gee, the builders of Canada continue to amaze me. I love it, and I’m here for it! 🇨🇦
What did it say about Housing?
Below is an extract but you can see the sources directly from Build Canada’s website.
Psst: I’ve focused on the two major parties—Liberal and Conservative—because they are currently the most prominent in national polling and policy influence. This isn’t an endorsement of any party.

“Weiting, why are you talking about politics?”
Two weeks ago, you saw me share insights about how the Canadian government spent $514B in fiscal year 2024. There were some replies requesting me to focus on Landlord and Tenant advocacy instead of trying to influence your vote.
You might be wondering why I'm bringing up politics in a newsletter about rental housing. Here's why: Government decisions—on zoning, social housing, tenancy laws—shape our daily lives. So staying informed isn't just political, it's practical.
And it looks like housing-related policies is pretty important when casting our votes!

If you can vote, WHO you vote for isn’t my focus. That’s your decision - and only you.
The fact that you GO OUT TO VOTE is what I’m aiming for.
If I can spark some inspiration in those who would otherwise not vote, I see that as a huge positive.
I’ll be honest, I’ve never been more informed about politics than I am right now.
But hold on, let’s rewind a tad bit to the beginning of Openroom.
September 2022…
When Co-Founder Vishal and I started Openroom, our vision was vividly clear.
Openroom is building towards a future of a TRANSPARENT and CONNECTED rental ecosystem.
‘Transparency’ in that we believe certain information should be made public.
‘Connected’ in that knowledge should be shared amongst all of us so we can make more informed decisions.
The rental ecosystem we want doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It happens when we stay informed, speak up, and show up.
Thank you to all of you 17,543 readers that continue to rally behind our vision. Let’s keep working towards this future together.
Do you also have something on your mind you might want to write about? Start writing and share it with me to get published.
psst, Opinion articles submitted by members of the Openroom community are not necessarily representative of Openroom. Openroom has an objective to publish the voices of the rental ecosystem to ensure there is dialogue amongst all.
I know people host Oscars Watch Parties but I’m hosting an election debate party this year. My friends and I will be tuned in on Thurs. April 17 at 7PM EST [see who and how].
After that, we’ll cast our votes during advance/special polling days [see when and how].
When I want to learn something, I get pretty into it…
Let’s go Canada.
